Sihanoukville Governor Warns Hotel, Casino Employers Violating Labor Laws

Sihanoukville: The Sihanoukville provincial administration has warned to file administrative and legal action, as well as the temporary suspension of business premises for hotel and casino owners who detain or force employees to work outside the labor conditions and laws. The warning letter was released by the Governor of Preah Sihanouk Province, Kouch Chamroeun on Monday that they will monitor owners of hotel and casino buildings with forced labor.

 This was following the observation of Preah Sihanouk Provincial Administration of the selection, management and implementation of employment contracts between employers and some workers which are not yet in accordance with legal procedures. The statement released is empasising on the rise of labor disputes and a series of complaints in the province.

The governor says that in order to resolve and reduce labor disputes effectively and in a timely manner, especially to prevent forced or obligatory work that could face human trafficking and sexual exploitation in any form, the Sihanoukville Provincial Administration strictly prohibits forced or compulsory work. It also includes hiring people to cut debts, and cutting wages for the benefit of the employer, a representative of the employer or an intermediary, such as a recruitment agency.
